Flying high!

Last week we invited some very special children from Lancasterian School for our first Flight Camp Week – and it was a super-sonic success! 10 children with a variety of physical and learning disabilities joined our CAFT Crew for a week filled with all things flight related.

The week began on Monday 23rd June when the children were flown in (!) by minibus and taken to the Kit Room to pick up their Red Arrows Flight Suits and baseball caps. What followed was week full of fun and laughter thanks to the hard work of the charity’s staff, volunteers and special guests. Those guests included a Pilot from Monarch, Cabin Crew from Thomson and 2137 Squadron Lymm Air Cadets, all of whom gave their time freely to entertain the children.

We also visited the Viewing Park at Manchester Airport for a spot of Plane Bingo and lunch in the restaurant. Our timing couldn’t have been better as the Private Jet carrying the England Football Team touched down during their visit, giving us an extra special glimpse of the Squad!

We even created our very own runway and helipad on one of our fields, upon which the children took part in fun obstacle courses and water play. Friend of the Farm, Neil Pearson, also made full use of these with a breath-taking display using his amazing remote controlled helicopters.

Stacey O’Sullivan from Lancasterian comments: ““The children and staff from Lancasterian have had a week filled with laughter, new experiences and memories that will last us forever. The children have grown throughout the week and for everyone involved it has been a pleasure to see. From all of the parents, staff, but most of all the children, thank you Adventure Farm, you’re fandabbydozey!!”

Our Press Officer, Helen Crowther, comments: “This has been our first ever Flight Camp and we’ll definitely be doing it again next year! It was amazing and far exceeded even our expectations. The support we have received from everyone involved has been fantastic, they’ve all given their time and energy so freely and the result has been a holiday which will never be forgotten. We provide holidays every week throughout the year, each one is very different, and each week we feel privileged to spend time with such fantastic children.”
