Sports week with St Mary's

Sports Weeks

Last week, year 6 students from St Mary’s Primary School in Moss Side came to stay at CAFT and what a week they had because it was sports week! The CAFT Green Team arranged a fantastic sports themed week which included some very special visitors…

To begin the week, there was “Meet the Motorcyclist”. Local racer Tom brought in his Kawasaki race bike and KTM motorcross bike, plus his trophies, leathers and helmets. All the children had the opportunity to sit on the bikes, try on the helmets and watch Tom demonstrate on the Kawasaki. Following this there was a visit from Paralympian Lottie Wilcocks. Lottie gave an inspiring talk to the children about the Paralympics and then joined the children for fun filled activities. The next day, children received a visit from some local “Robins” – The Altrincham Football Club. Players and coaches visited the farm for a two hour training session with the children. During the session, the children learnt valuable skills such as teamwork, ball skills, communication and goal scoring! Next on the jam-packed agenda was a visit to the Halliwell Jones Stadium in Warrington for a morning with the Warrington Wolves. The children were able to watch the wolves train and were then invited to join the players and coaches on the field for a training session! The children were given a goody bag filled with treats and their very own rugby ball! To conclude the busy week, CAFT patrons Dame Sarah Storey and Barney Storey visited the farm to meet the children and join in with all the fun. Sarah and Barney gave the children a wonderful talk all about their amazing careers and the children were able to see Sarah’s gold medals from the Paralympics. Sarah then presented each child with their own gold (chocolate) medal in the closing ceremony of the CAFT Sports Week.

We thank all our visitors and the Warrington Wolves for helping make Sports week a smashing success! The children of St Mary’s had a brilliant week, experiencing and partaking in various sports, meeting wonderful and inspiring people and they made lots of memories all together.
