The Ultimate Human Race

Tony Collier

Our very own Superman, Tony Collier, is about to take on his biggest challenge so far as he attempts to conquer the Comrades Ultra Marathon whilst raising money for CAFT!

In May Tony will take on one of the world’s toughest Ultra marathons to raise funds for our charity – 54 miles, climbing 6,500 feet in temperatures that could be as high as 30 degrees! The race will run from Durban in South Africa to Petermariztburg and has a strict 12 hour time limit – if he is just 1 second over this he’ll be disqualified!!

Determined this won’t happen, Tony began an exhausting training schedule in December of last year and aims to run around 1,000 miles in the lead up to the race, including two marathons (Rome and Manchester) as well as completing 3 ultra marathon distance runs along the way.

Tony is no stranger to long distance running whilst fundraising for us – he’s completed 12 marathons to date including all 6 of the World Marathon Majors, including Tokyo, Boston, London and New York! He’s raised almost £40,000 for the Adventure Farm and we really can’t thank him enough for his amazing support.

When I spoke to Tony he commented: “The Comrades Ultra Marathon is a 54 mile race in South Africa with a strict 12 hour cut off time, the route climbs 6,500 feet and descends 4,000 feet and the temperature could be as hot as 30c. Apart from that, it’s a piece of cake! My firm, MBL Chartered Accountants, have supported CAFT for 6 years and helped them raise nearly £40,000. My aim is to raise another £10,000 by taking on this challenge.”
