Twice the laughs at our Family Fun Day!

Jason John and Bobby

On Sunday 31st August we were joined by not one but two of our celebrity Patrons at our Annual Family Fun Day. John Bishop and Jason Manford brought down their families and friends to support our charity which is close to their hearts.

This year’s event attracted around 800 visitors and raised a fantastic £5,000! Visitors were kept entertained throughout by attractions such as children’s fairground rides, face painting from Elmscot Nursery Group & kiddies corner, plus a host of stalls and games. There were animals galore including Jema Leopold’s performing horses and ponies, fantastic petting corner with Stockley Farm and donkey rides by Alwood Donkeys. Long-term supporter Roger Green organised model helicopter displays and stunning classic cars.

Local radio DJ Mark Blackman hosted the event, introducing live music arranged by volunteer Mike Healey. Mark even took part in a triple ice bucket challenge with Fred the Red from MUFC and Moonchester from MCFC! And the fun didn’t stop there for the Manchester United mascot who was involved in some friendly jostling with LFC fan John Bishop and MCFC fan Jason Manford!

We treated our guests to culinary delights such as a Hog Roast courtesy of Brynleys Catering, BBQ and a traditional Tea Room which was run by the 20/20 Women’s Networking Group, who were amongst an army of volunteers who manned the various stalls and games. Many local companies lent their support to the event, including James Galt & Co Ltd, Roberts Bakery and Parfetts to name but a few.

The 99th Garrison sent down their team of Stormtroopers, amusing guests who were delighted to see Darth Vader enjoying an ice cream and the Stormtroopers themselves on the Tea Cups! Altrincham Football Club were there to teach football skills and were joined by their mascot Rocky Robin.

Our Events Fundraiser, Pippa Watton, comments: “We were so lucky with the weather this year, the sun shone and it was a beautiful day. It was such a great afternoon and we were overwhelmed with the support of local people, businesses and groups who made it a huge success. All of the money raised on the day will help us to change the lives of countless children who are in desperate need of a break.”
