SUMMARY:Hadrian's Wall Cycle
DESCRIPTION:This event is now Sold Out. Keep an eye out for future events.\nJoin us for this wonderful cycling trip\, following in the footsteps of Roman soldiers.\nExperience some of the rich heritage that Cumbria and Northumberland have to offer\, from cycling in open hill country\, through peaceful river valleys and finishing at the North Sea at Tynemouth. All on the quiet road\, traffic free paths\, along the National Cycle route 72.\n\nHadrian’s Cycleway route passes through some of the most beautiful parts of England and skirts a number of fascinating Roman sites including Birdoswald Fort\, Walltown Quarry\, Great Chesters Fort and Vindolanda. It’s a great alternative to other\, more well-known Coast to Coast routes\, offering so much amazing scenery and history\, while being slightly easier with less overall elevation.\n\nWe will meet at CAFT (WA14 3RE) on Friday morning\, and transfer to Ravenglass in Lake District. From there we cycle north along the coast through beautiful towns like Whitehaven and Workington\, and finishing just near Bowness on Solway\, where the Hadrian’s Wall starts! 65 miles\nOn Saturday we head east. After navigating the cycle paths through Carlisle\, we soon find ourselves on the quiet rural lanes. Soon we will start to notice more and more remains of the Hadrian’s Wall with it’s many forts. There will be time to stop at the Roman Museum. We finish the day just outside Hexham. 50 miles\nOn our last day (Sunday) we continue our journey east\, stopping for refreshments in scenic town of Corbridge\, from where we start to follow the river Tyne. The cycle lane will take us through Newcastle and all the way to North Shields. We cross the river on the ferry before finishing our adventure in South Shields. After celebratory Fish & Chips lunch\, we will be transferred back to CAFT. 45 miles\n\nCOSTS (£200)\n\n£75 registration deposit\n£125 remaining costs (due no later than 8 weeks before the event)\n\nParticipants are expected to raise minimum of £250 of sponsorship for The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust. \nINCLUDED\n\nTransfer for you and your bike from CAFT to the start of the route\nSupported cycle with refreshments stops and vehicle support\n2 nights accommodation with breakfast – bunkhouse!!
